Local Councils are a valued partner in delivering the NSW container deposit scheme, vital in shifting community attitudes to recycling and litter prevention and ultimately the success of the scheme.

Over the 4 years since the scheme’s inception in December 2017, our region’s residents and visitors have recycled over 425 million containers through reverse vending machines.  In fact, the community in Wollongong (very closely followed by the Shoalhaven) sits behind only Penrith, Lake Macquarie and Liverpool LGAs as the top recycling communities in the State.

A great effort by our region to prevent litter, support local community groups through refund donations and make sure that resources including plastics, glass and aluminium get a second life.
